Lovemark helps lead the Trojans to Pac-10 victory

USC, Lovemark Win Pac-10 Titles
Trojans post huge 36-shot victory while Lovemark wins by six strokes.April 25, 2007

Web results are available at golfstatresults.com

USC won its Pac-10 best 18th conference championship, freshman Jamie Lovemark became Troy’s 20th conference individual title winner and senior Joshua Wooding and freshman Rory Hie finished third and fourth, respectively, as the Trojans ran away from the field on the final day of the 2007 Pac-10 Championships at the Eugene (Ore.) C.C., on Wednesday (April 25).

USC, under first-year coach Chris Zambri and ranked No. 5 in the latest Golfword.com poll, put together another dominating effort in the final round, combining to fire a 16-under 344 for a 72-hole, 51-under 1389 (358-342-345-344). USC’s 1389 was its lowest 72-hole total ever at the Pac-10 Championships and was just five strokes off the conference record of 1384, set by Arizona State in 2000.

UCLA was second at 1425 (-15) and was followed by Arizona State (1433, -7), Stanford (1436, -4), Washington (1453, +13), Arizona (1457, +17), Oregon State (1458, +18), Oregon (1464, +24), California (1468, +28) and Washington State (1484, +44). The Pac-10 Championships, unlike most tournaments, features six-player teams with the low five scores counting toward each 18-hole round.continued…….

Former UCLA Linebacker now bleeds Cardinal and Gold

Ken Norton Jr.
Linebackers

UCLA, linebacker, 1984-87
Dallas Cowboys, linebacker, 1988-93
San Francisco 49ers, linebacker, 1994-2000

Ken Norton Jr., one of the premier linebackers in NFL and collegiate history, is in his third year on the USC staff, including his second as a full-time assistant working with the linebackers (he was promoted in February of 2005). He spent his first year at USC as a graduate assistant (helping with the linebackers) after joining the Trojan staff in February of 2004.

Ken Norton Jr. sought a position under his former UCLA teammate Dorrell (UCLA head Coach) in 2003, but to no avail.  Pete Carroll coached Norton on the 49ers. He ran into him while doing an interview at the NFL Network studio, where Norton was working in 2003, and the rest is history.  Norton rejected offers by UCLA last January and is currently in the greatest spot he can be in….. Working as an assistant under the greatest football coach Pete Carroll.

In 2005, linebacker Rey Maualuga was a Freshman All-American first teamer.

In 2004, linebackers Matt Grootegoed and Lofa Tatupu were named All-American first teamers (Grootegoed also was a Butkus Award finalist and Tatupu was a NFL second round pick). The Trojans won the national championship.
